Caught between the known and the unknown, between darkness and light, between make believe and what is real, children exist in a netherworld of mystery, psychodrama and magic. These found fractions of seconds provide visual cues that do not quite add up. They carry hidden messages and the iconography of our collective past. As a result, the photographs are as much about adult fears and pleasures as they are about the child who inhabits them.
Together, these images of my son Noah at an early age form an essay on childhood: that timeless garden we all come from and must ultimately abandon. Each picture takes the viewer on a journey of self-discovery by providing a chance to remember what was lost and perhaps, for a brief, illusory moment, to come home again.
